The Team Behind Sendman

We started Sendman because we kept seeing the same problem at customers who had already moved their mailboxes to Exchange Online: one Exchange server was still running, purely so that printers, scanners, monitoring tools, and line-of-business applications had something to relay their mail through.

Migrating mailboxes had taken care of the easy part. Decommissioning the last server never happened, because nothing else could accept SMTP submissions from systems that could not be reconfigured to use modern authentication.

Since we did not find anything suitable, we built Sendman. It accepts standard SMTP submissions, including legacy authentication methods such as NTLM where required, and routes them to Exchange Online or to external transport services for delivery, to internal and external recipients alike. Sendman replaces the one function that kept an otherwise-retired Exchange server alive.

With Sendman, we want organizations to be able to finish what they started when they moved to Exchange Online: retiring the on-premises server entirely, without waiting for every appliance and application to be replaced or reconfigured first.
